Changes in Downtown Colorado Springs Bring New Opportunities and Energy

As we mourn the lost of longtime restaurants like Southside Johnny’s, Nosh, Ritz Grill, Triple S Brewery and Blue Star in the downtown Colorado Springs area, we are on the edge of new vibrant revitalization that will spur new residential buildings, fresh new restaurants, and jump-start the life in the core of the city. Some estimates note there will be over $600 million in revitalization to the downtown area in the next 5 years. Take a minute to see some of the changes that are coming, in progress, and some already in place! Everything including new restaurants, new jobs, new living and entertainment options will help energize downtown Colorado Springs and provide new opportunities in every aspect of city living.

Tourist will be drawn to downtown with new hotels like Hilton Garden Inn (167 rooms), dual branded Marriott hotels near Oscar’s on Tejon (230 rooms), unnamed hotel as part of the South Nevada Urban Development Renewal Project (130 rooms), and a proposed 19-story 500 room hotel at the new Champions Plaza across from America the Beautiful Park. Plus visitors can enjoy sight-seeing options like the Legacy Loop Trail which encircles the downtown area. No bicycle? No problem. You’ll be able to use the upcoming bikeshare system called PikeRide (coming 2018) to get around Legacy Loop or to enjoy the dedicated bike lanes throughout downtown Springs.

Plus, there will be plenty to keep both locals and visitors entertained, from the new U.S. Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame and Champion Plaza (across from America the Beautiful Park), new and expanded art galleries, open-air markets and games in the parks, and live music and shows. Additionally, you’ll see new partnerships and amenities in buildings like the Winfield Scott Building, complete with restaurants, additional parking and a rooftop patio. This is just one of many projects part of commercial revitalization on entire street blocks like Costilla Street, South Nevada and the already completed Bijou Street revitalization project.

Plus, in 2017 we’ve seen expansions like Coquette’s Bistro and new restaurants like Rooster’s House of Ramen, Four by Brother Luck, and Red Gravy Fresh Italian Kitchen, recognized on Food Network for their award-winning chefs.

Not only is downtown seeing renovations and expansion in the restaurant industry, the face-lifts and additions are across industries and services, including expansion and renovation to the downtown YMCA, Colorado Springs Fire Station No. 1, roads like the Cimarron and Interstate 25 interchange, and significant renovations and updates to the historic Antler’s Hotel.

Finally, we’re getting more living options too. If you’ve always wanted to walk to Story Coffee for your breakfast cup of joe, or grab dinner just steps from your front door this will soon be a reality for more people.
