Summer is the time for bike rides around the city an enjoying some exercise, but how about through 3 cities, 313 miles, and over 3 days with more than 20,000 feet of high-altitude climbing? Yeah, maybe we’ll leave that to the professionals – the 2017 Colorado Classic bike riders – coming through Colorado Springs on August 10 2017.
The Colorado Classic is a professional cycling event which draws lots of media attention, fascinated crowds and recognition for Colorado Springs and surrounding areas. The male and female cyclists will start and end Stage 1 of the Colorado Classic Bike Race in downtown Colorado Springs. Although the distances and start times are different for the men’s and women’s races, the first (women’s) race begins at 10:00am and will include coverage from NBC Sports and a live streaming international webcast reaching an estimated 41 million+ people! The men will follow later that afternoon at 1:10pm with 6 laps around the 15.58 mile course which runs through Garden of the Gods Park, Old Colorado City, and throughout Downtown Colorado Springs.
With officials closing off streets throughout the westside of Colorado Springs and over 30,000 spectators expected, there will be some delays throughout the downtown area on August 10 2017. After the events here in Colorado Springs, riders will move on to Breckenridge and Denver, CO for the remaining 3 days of the event, organized by Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.
We’re excited to again host this major event as a city. There will be plenty of opportunities for businesses to promote their brand and capture customers, including being added to the “Things to Do” page on the race website. Plus revenue generated from the large crowds, race staff, and cyclist family and friends will benefit the entire city. If you really want to get involved and become more than a spectator, they are always looking for volunteers and course marshals for the event. See ColoradoClassic-COS.org for more information.
